Contusion

A region of injured tissue or skin in which blood capillaries have been ruptured; a bruise.

Each wooden hoop has been stretched with artist’s paint rag and hand embroidered. The overall installation is adaptable to its context ie its shape can shift according to the setting. This artwork is about the fragility and translucency of skin. We are creating a permanence to the inherently transitory nature of bruising and other types of contusion.

“I couldn’t find the words. I saw it as a fleur du mal, a blossoming of affliction, a gorgeous, roseate pain”

“It is a bit like something Jackson Pollock would embroider if his day job was a surgeon”

“By looking at the skin/ textile fusion, I feel the rawness and pain. What a way to express how it is, great stuff”
